Review:

Being a good DJ nowadays is not easy. There is a huge list of various artists that are good at it. But if you want to be like famous DJs (e.g. Tiesto) you have to be better than them. Then you realise that you don't have money and space to buy all DJ equipment such as turntables, equalizers, mixers... You can't even lend a studio, but you would like to produce a music at home on your computer. So, Virtual DJ might be a good place to start. At first step you have an option to select if you want basic or expert experience with a few skins to try, and you can add more, for example, you are a Pioneer addict, so you would like to have (visually of course) Pioneer turntables. You can download skin that you prefer. Some of these are free, and for some you have to pay. Let's start with basic mode. You have two of decks, left and right, like real DJ deck. In each you have voice effects, which you can add in your song which you are editing, or making your own. There's also loop sampler which is another effect that can be included in song. Loop sampler and effects can be activated and deactivated with just single click. If you don't like samples, you can add your own effects or download another from developer's site. With sync buttons you can sync left and right side with the same tempo. On left and right edge you can set custom tempo if you don't like default one. In the middle you have gain which can be used to increase or decrease volume beyond or below default limit. Below is browser, which is great for navigating to song you are going to work with. Title is filled with CPU usage bar, and options like BPM and config. Virtual DJ is perfect tool for home users and they can make a lot of fun learning how to be a DJ. But this software will cause headaches to DJs on their tour. Virtual turntables are sometimes making "shake" and "cracky" sounds. Even on notebook things are getting worse. It is really difficult to drag turntable with touchpad and it's recommendable to use an external mouse. The second thing that is noticable is poor perfomance on older computers with single core CPUs. Program is acting slower, and it is also a bit slower if you would like to use program in full screen mode.
Program turns out to be perfect for making an advanced home studio for beginner or experienced user. For expert DJs which are travelling, it is more advisable to buy real DJ equipment instead of virtual one.

Conclusion:

Great DJ software for home music production
