Review:

Let's be honest: Formatting and converting files of any sort can be a royal pain. Especially when it comes to lengthy videos and movies. It takes more time than what any working person has to spare these days, and the task can be confusing and aggravating. If you had even the deepest of desires to do some serious video converting, you'd probably put it off for a later day to avoid the tediousness and annoyance. Besides, any good software that could help you out would probably cost you an arm and a leg, and maybe even a finger or two. Right?
Not quite.
WinAVI is a simple, but handy program that can and will help you out immensely with video conversions. It costs around $20-30, and it definitely gets the job done.

So what can it do? It does all the basic stuff, for one. Such as MOV conversions to AVI/WMV/RM, AVI to DVD/VCD/SVCD/WMV,or DVD to AVI. Many files are supported, because nothing is more aggravating than spending good money on a program only to find out that it can't even do what you intended to use it for.
Some of these types are as follows:
AVI, MPEG/MPG 1/2/4, VCD/SVCD/DVD, DivX, ASF, WMV, RM, MOV MP4 and SWF.

Of course you're probably not going to keep the finished project on your computer forever. That's why WinAVI comes with a utility to burn DVDs. The burning formats, however, are somewhat limited. Which is one thing that I don't like about it, but it's forgivable.

Though for the most part the program is very easy to use, there are times that it can be confusing, even if only a little. The user would have to know about files and formats, as well as how they work in order to use the program properly. But then, a person wouldn't be using it if they didn't at least have some idea about these things, would they?

WinAVI is a bang for your buck, and though there are a few downfalls, I wouldn't recommend any other program. Even top-notch software can have it's rough spots.

Conclusion:

For the price, it's not a bad buy. You can accomplish the task at hand, and then some. It's aesthetically appealing, and easy to operate (for the most part, if you know what you are doing.) If you are looking for a happy medium between perfection and complete shit, this is your program. I found it to perform above average in most cases, and I am happy with it.
