The whole point of using a 3rd-party uninstallation program is to go above and beyond the functionality of the Windows uninstallation utility, and make tasks such as fixing a half-installed program much easier. My first impression of Smarty Uninstaller was that it took quite a while to gather information about my installed programs (of course, I do have a rather large number of them!). When the program finally came to life, however, I realized why it took a couple minutes to respond. By double-clicking on a program, you're given a huge amount of statistics:
Publisher, version number, size of the installation, when the program was installed/last accessed/modified, a link to help for the program, a telephone number (if there is one!), the program's website, and the program's installation location. And this information is all in the upper half of the current window!
Below the program information, all registry information related to the program is listed. Not only can you see the registry values, but you can change them (only recommended for advanced users). This eliminates the need to open up regedit and search through thousands of entries to find the one you want.
In the main window, you're given two options for uninstallation: uninstall and FORCE uninstall. For any of you who have ever tried to uninstall some pesky adware that snuck in with a program you wanted to install, this feature is a blessing.
It appears that, yes, smart and easy do coincide, at least with Smarty Uninstaller 2007 Pro, which will finally allow you to take back control of your computer.
