Review:

Having had a PSP since it's launch back in '05, I've only used free or extremely cheap software to achieve what Xilisoft boasts it can do. So when I saw a 40 buck program that doesn't offer any hardware (cables, etc.), I had to see if the pricetag fit the product. The result...not so surprising.

Xilisoft comes up short in too many areas to demand 40 hard earned dollars. Let's start with support. Why not include documentation inside the program rather than sending me to a full list of software support on their web page? Obviously, it's so that they can try to sell me more sub-par software.

Next, there's a fake-me-out maximize button! Maybe it's only on my system, but the maximize button failed to do anything much less maximize my window. When does 40 dollars mean that i have to manually resize a window?

This leads into the user interface. I have to give them a couple things here, it's great to have the super/easy/path customization; anyone can figure it out because the path is always right there. You can also...well I guess I'm reaching for my other positive point, here. Anyway, the user interface lacks a tab system that I've seen elsewhere to move between dvd and psp transfer. The details section on the right to specify size, bit-rate and so forth offer no guidance as to what can and can't be modified, and lastly the "!?" button at the bottom of the UI (user interface) does nothing for the layman.

Conclusion:

The developers should consider bundling the product with hardware or other DVD Ripping/Burning software to boost its practical worth. Right now the alternatives to Xilisoft offer more utility for the money...or no money.
