WinAvi Video Converter Review

WinAvi is a nice, graphically pleasing, easy to use software application that makes converting files an easy job. It does a great job via its intuitive user interface and with it's clear messages and dialogs.

I have tried time and again to convert .MOV files to .AVI files - it was simply not meant to be. The application opens a window that says there was an error and then 'We are sorry, but...' and the standard application error and must close dialog. Oh well, maybe there's just this issue.

On the brighter side of WinAvi, what I notice is that it's really fast. other files that DO get converted, get converted very quickly - in fact I was amazed of the speed: in only a matter of minutes, movies up to 30-40 minutes long get converted at a record time.

Also, I noticed something that I found quite nice. WinAvi can convert .flv files. They don't really advertise it, but I find it a useful feature that should have made it to the front page.

The only downside to using WinAvi is that after converting files from some formats you get a short, quarter-of-a-second, mute period every ten or twenty seconds. So the sound goes blank and you can't hear anything for a very short time.
