There’s that nasty timer again!
When I was quite young, my father taught me about 20 kinds of solitaire to increase my math skills. I still play, but since the advent of computers, it is now possible to do so without the bother of bent or lost cards, endless shuffling, or the temptation to cheat.
With Action Solitaire there are the usual standards like Pyramid, Klondike, and Spider (this, for you trivia fans, was FDR’s favorite) in addition to a few you may not be familiar with. There is even a version of solitaire which they refer to as “Fan” that in my adolescence I referred to as “hard-hard”. This was the most difficult to play because although it was, in theory, easy to win, it required as much brain capacity as chess.
There are alternatives to some of the them, which makes for the high assortment count, and in most games you have the ability to undo, pause, keep track of your statistics, and even play against others online. There are also instructions for those variations you are not familiar with and the choice of taking what few points you have against the clock if you are dead-ended.
And because I still cannot figure out how it’s possible for me to reach level 32 on one of them and never make it to round two in another, I admit that since writing this review I still have it on my desktop.
If you like solitaire, want a good assortment waiting on your desktop, or relish the challenge of double solitaire, this is a good bet.
