master tempo is cutting the sound; your agility is miserable...
Virtual dj studio is a one of the too many attempts to help young and unexperienced dj-s breaking into the music scene with low costs.
It is a virtual dj equipment with two chanel mixer and two turntables. It has some other functions, like the sampler, efector, vocoder, and many more, but that depends of the program version you have. It plays only all popular prerecording audio formats, such as mp3, wma, waw...
There is many good things about this program. The bpm counter is very precise, so as such it can be used simply to check track tempo, write it down and later to play it on turntable or cd player, and it can be trusted. Downside of this is that it kills the essence of mixing for some dj-s.
Wether the creators wanted this program to be for use of underqualified djs I don't know but this program force you to use it when you mix in it, simply because the pitch for both decks is not usable. The only way to beatmach is to use the "SYNC" button, because the pitch is not precise, and as such you can't pick your tempo precisly.
The effector in VDJ is very adjustable and is working propertly. The sound of every effect is perfect, which brings us to the fact that if you use the turntable effects(brake, backspin) they will give recogniseable perfect sounds that only machine can produce, so if you are planing to use VDJ and tell people that you really mixed, try not to use it. Or else, try not to play it to any dj. The other effects are like on a real mixer, and there is almost no difference, if any, VDJ is easier to adjust.
The loop also works great. And it can be used manualy(you can select when to start and stop) or semi-automatic(you can press button when you want to start by pressing the number of beats you want it to loop).
There is two BIG flaws in the VDJ program:
First, master tempo (which is supposed to repress sound modification when tempo is changed) is cutting the sound. And it cannot be turned off. So that goes for recording sets in VDJ without using some other program to repair the dammaged sound.
Second, your agility is miserable, because of the fact that shortcuts is not working propertly, so it brings you to use mouse instead of the keybord. And that can be a problem when you want to change two or more things at once.
The great thing about VDJ is that you can use it for assembling melodies for your sets. It's much faster than changing vinyls or cd-s, so, you dont have to mix it as if you are world class dj it can provide you multiple sounds so you can hear which track can or can't be played after another.
Conclusion: VDJ is great for beginers, it's great for pros for wanting to hear some mellody or rythm combined, but it's just a toy. It's ok to use it in your early dj works, but that is all.
