Luxor Review
A Decent Zuma Clone - Fun, but does not take your breath away
You can buy it at RegNow for that price.
Fun to play, Refreshing twist compared to Zuma, Interesting Egyptian theme
Unoriginal (it's a Zuma copycat), Sub-par music, Counter-intuitive aiming system
Luxor bears many striking similarities to the more popular Popcap game Zuma, because you still aim to strike moving balls and play against time and pressure to stay alive. The moving turret for shooting and Egyptian theme however injects a fresh breath of air for those of us who have played Zuma countless times. However summarily Luxor pales significantly in comparison to Zuma.
The Good:
Luxor has some strengths of its own, which do enhance the fun and feel of the game. The Egyptian design is rendered beautifully, and does give you a good feel of the game. The sound effects are solid as well, and the addition of "power-ups" in the game augments the gameplay factor.
The Flip Side:
However, the core of the game - the shooting turret - regrettably is a let-down because of its counter-intuitive moving turret. This mars gameplay to a certain extent because it get irritating sometimes trying to hit a certain spot you wanted and the moving turret prevented you from getting a clear shot. There are also not many additions compared to Zuma so for those of you familiar with Zuma you will not find that much more fun in this game.
Overall:
Overall, Luxor packs a pretty good dose of fun with its excellent graphics and sound, although that is offset somewhat by the poor shooting turret system. Nonetheless, Luxor will entertain you sufficiently for about an hour or so, but if you are a Zuma fan, you will probably just play Luxor for the feel, and go back to playing Zuma.
A Zuma clone that holds its own to a small extent, but at the end of the day Zuma still wins hands-down. You're better off sticking to Zuma.
