Review:

I can't believe no one else thought of a Space Sim (although maybe someone has and I'm just out of touch.) Regardless, it's a great idea. I mean--come on--build a colony on the moon, negotiate with aliens. It's like Sid Meier's Civilization in space.

For sheer coolness and the innovative nature of the game this is worth it. The whole infrastructure management reminds me of the whole Sim City premise, while the tourism aspect is like Roller Coaster Tycoon. The fact that all of this takes place in space makes it even better. There is one thing that I find unecessary and a bit annoying, though.

The 3D graphics. Of course, I'm quite the die-hard veteran gamer who remembers the days of the ORIGINAL Civilization (16 bit graphics and everything) for DOS and all of the other oldies. In my opinion, the depth of the game is enough to sell it and the 3D graphics sort of result in an overload. But that's just me.

The average person will be blown away by this. 3D graphics are expected in today's society--Anarchy Enterprises would have been taking a risk by not using 3D graphics. My verdict: yes, Moon Tycoon rehashes old gameplay mechanics (but there isn't really much room for originality in sim games--except in concept and location), but the game being located in space is fresh and new. And very cool.

Conclusion:

Creative and original treatment of the sim/strategy formula.
