Moon Tycoon Review
Good for what it is
You can buy it at RegNow for that price.
- Decent visuals - Simple interface. Anyone can play, but not intended as a children's game - Enough options and build types keep the game from being monotinous - Can be run on a low-end computer (I tested it on a Pentium III 1ghz laptop, just to see if it would run. No problem once the game loaded.)
- Tutorial is not particularly in-depth - Not a very original game - Experienced glitches when opening and closing the game, however, it may be the computer that it was tested on
This game is essentially like any other "Tycoon" style game. There is a very SimCity feel to the economy system. I would not consider this game to be in any way revolutionary, but for those who enjoyed titles such as SimCity, Rollercoaster Tycoon, and Sim Tower, you ought to get a decent kick out of this game.
While the game is good, I would say that by modern standards, the claim of "incredible 3D graphics" is drastically overstated. While the visuals are interesting enough to satisfy, they are by no means breathtaking. One good aspect of the lack of high-end graphics is that the game does not take up a lot of processing power. This could be the perfect game on a laptop for a morning commute, or for the casual gamer who doesn't have a high-end computer.
The main focus of the game, just like other Sim games, is to build up a prosperous economy while keeping the inhabitants of your colony safe and happy. There is a sufficient number of different routes to go to keep the economy interesting (mining, manufacturing, research and tourism).
One negative comment is that when I load the game, it takes a very long time to open, and in the meanwhile says "not responding." The same goes with shutting the game off. However, if I just let it do its thing for a minute, it worked. The problem may be the laptop it was tested on. It isn't in the best condition, but even a Pentium III 1 ghz laptop can run the game smoothly once it's started.
The game is good. If you like the classic SimCity titles, you might as well give this a go. At least try the demo. I think that if you're interested in this style of game, and don't want much variation on the original concept, you will enjoy yourself.
