Webroot Spy Sweeper Review
Webroot Spysweeper
You can buy it at RegNow for that price.
Does an excellent job at protecting your system from threats of spyware, and other system changes. Well worth the price, and the annual renewal subscription.
Somewhat slow when you run a system scan. Uses a good part of system resources when booting up and when scanning.
I have been using this product for almost two years. Before using it exclusively for spyware protection, I went through many other programs such as Adaware, Xsoft, and a few others. After having the time to compare each of them, Webroot's Spysweeper did the best job of any of the others in protecting my system from spyware, as well as several other problems that a regular internet surfer inadvertantly picks up in their travels.
Spysweeper does much more than protect from simple spyware programs. It also offers the options to protect your system from unauthorized changes to your startup programs, Internet Explorer Hijacks, changes to your home page, and your favorites, and warns when a browser "helper object" is attempting to install itself. The program is also superior at picking up the presence of keylogger programs, and any attempted changes to your hosts file. Keep in mind that this is NOT anti-virus software. I know a lot of people think spyware and anti-virus protection are the same thing, but they are not, so this program should be used in addition to anti-virus software in order to maximize system protection.
The software is extremely easy to use and understand. The average person would be able to set the options up and update the definitions without having to consult the help files.
I do like this program very much, because it is effective in what it does; however, even the best programs have some drawbacks.
My only complaint with this software is that it is very slow to perform a system scan. You can set it for a faster scan, but it does not make it much faster at all. After the last version update from Webroot, I also found that my system boot takes longer as well. (The program runs during the startup.) So, in my opinion, the newer version appears to be using more system resources to run then the previous versions. That is still not bad enough to make me switch to a different product. I will upgrade my memory before I do that. I currently run it with 512MB on 3.2 ghz P4 system.
I definitly recommend this product, it does what it claims to do, and
that is something a lot of software out there does not live up to.
When used with anti-virus, you are well protected with this software. You won't regret your purchase, it is the best one available to fight spyware.
