Dungeon Scroll Review
Casual games should be casual
You can buy it at RegNow for that price.
Some added flavors are unique
outdated graphic, poor gameplay
Casual games usually do not attract serious gamers, and game producers know this fact well enough. These small, little games that help you wasting time are meant to be played and forgotten. That being said, we can see a lot of casual games trying to appeal to serious gamers. Sometimes they succeed, like Jewel Quest. Other times they don’t, like this Dungeon Scroll game.
Gameplay: 2/5
Dungeon Scroll is, in fact, the Facebook game Word Challenge with some added flavor. All you have to do is to create as many meaningful words as possible from a given set of alphabets. The game tries to be different by adding a dungeon system and introduce some monsters to spice up the game. These monsters will attack you, lowering your HP bar over time, and you, on the other hand, must create words as fast as possible to deplete the monster’s HP before you are killed. After a monster is defeated, your HP bar is refilled and you might receive some items, like the Golden alphabet that can double your damage. It might sound fun, but it’s actually frustrating seeing your HP slowly disappears while thinking for new words. It is even more frustrating when the monster’s HP gets abdominally long after a while. I must give the game producer some credits for trying to rejuvenate such an old game genre, but these added flavors are not worth your bucks, because you can find other similar (free and even better) games on Facebook and Myspace. Thumbs down, enough said.
Graphic: 2/5
The graphic is purely 2D. And the monster sprites are reused a lot of times. This game would look cool 15 years ago, not now. The menu and game interface are acceptable, but not intuitive. The monster sprites are on the left side of the screen while your alphabets are on the right. This renders the sprites truly useless because you would only focus on the right side of the screen and totally forget about how the monster looks like. The monster’s animation is just
Storyline: 0/5
What storyline?
Value: 2/5
You won’t be sticking with this game for long. In fact, you will just remove it from your hard drive after the first five minutes. Moreover, the game costs 10$+, while its better alternatives are free! Moral of the story: adding the word “dragon” to your game doesn’t make it better.
Worse than its free alternatives.
