BrickShooter Review
One Dimension equals boredem
You can buy it at RegNow for that price.
-Easy to pick up and play, not complicated at all -I like the title -Some customizing is allowed
-Music -Sound Effects -Graphics -GamePlay -Price -Difficulty -lack of variation
The game is very one dimensional. All you are doing when playing the game is clicking on colored buttons. It needs more dimensions, more levels, more variables to keep me hooked.
The good things are that it is a very simple game and it is very easy to pick up and play and get right into. The save button is a good feature and some features can be easily changed and that adds some fun to it. The programming is solid and the graphics are simple.
Having said that I personally feel the graphics are too simple. I noticed you have an explosion sound effect - so use it. Create an explosion animation or make it flash before disappearing to show that enough boxes have been joined instead of them just disappearing immediately. There is no real style or theme to the game. It does not give the feel of a professional game that I would pay for. I suggest getting a nice background and get rid of all the black to begin.
I found myself getting bored very quickly. This is because the game is almost too simple. All I do is click on the buttons and when I have no strategic move to make I have to make some random move and hope for the best. While the game is challenging, it is a bit too much on the frustrating side.
The game also needs some sort of story or context - not just some random fun. It would work well with achievements and levels. There should be some unbreakable boxes to add some variation to the game and so that more rows can be used. You could also include some power-ups to get rid of a full row or a 'wild' block that can be used as any color.
The ability to vary the number of colors is very good but you should start with the default as 5 because it is already difficult enough and keep in mind people like winning and its your job to try to make losing fun as well.
The music is terrible, it sounds like some cheap synthesized karaoke. It is too peaceful and lullaby-ish and adds to making me bored. It also does not match the sound effects which would do well in a more action or adventure game than a strategic puzzle game.
After I finish playing it, I don't have that urge to play it again, which shows that this game is not addictive at all. Even while I am playing it I am looking to quit soon. If i am really bored and haven't much to do, I might just play this game for a few minutes. If I missed anything about the game that I have criticized, I apologize, but that might just mean that it was not made possible enough.
I am a flash game developer and when I look at games that I am meant to buy online, I look for something that is nearly impossible to make into a free online flash game. Unfortunately this is not good enough and not worth paying for. It may make a bit of money as a flash game but I cannot imagine anyone would by it.
I do not recommend this game to anyone in its current state however I do feel there is room for improvement from the developer to make this a good full fledged game worth some money.
