Dungeon Scroll is an innovative game which blends both the word puzzle and rpg genres.
The game itself is fairly simple; You are confronted by a variety of fantasy creatures (think Lord of the Rings here) and you fight them back by composing words. You may not just use any words however and are limited to a certain amount of random letters to vainquish your foes. Note that time is limited as while you are pondering with which words you will slay your opponent, they won't hesitate to pound you to a pulp.
The rpg element comes in play rather nicely. Every now and then, you will have the opportunity to upgrade your character by increasing your damage output, your health and the like.
The graphics were slightly disappointing however. They are definitely not up to par to the new generation of games. Right off from the title screen (where you can see an avalanche of tiny spiders for some reason) you can spot the outdated graphics which might remind you of something you might see on 486 computers back in the days. Monsters are barely animated and the dungeons all look the same.
You can tell the graphics and the sound effects certainly weren't a main concern by the developers. The music, although catchy, is limited to a few different samples and some sound effects would make an Atari turn in its grave.
This being said, graphics and music really are peripheral to the actual game and are pretty much secondary. For the game certainly make up in content what it lacks in presentation.
Definitely a must try for those of you who can look past the appearance of the game and enjoy what it has to offer.
