XoftSpy Review
A Very Ordinary Anti-Spyware - XoftSpy
You can buy it at RegNow for that price.
The Backup and Ignore Lists. A relatively short scanning time.
Too expensive (Not worth the money). Ugly interface. Ineffective scanning and removal.
XoftSpy by no means justifies the $28 price tag that ParetoLogic has put on it. To tell you the truth, if I known what XoftSpy would have been like, I probably wouldn't have downloaded it even if it was free.
Let me start with what strikes you first with any software (in most cases) - the user interface. The XoftSpy user interface is to say the least a little ugly. Although it may have fewer controls that would make it easier for a novice, the very look of it is depressing. Some of the options open dialog boxes (the dirty brown ones) like the one you get when you want to browse for a file.
The scanning choices that XoftSpy offers you are, well, nonexistent. What I mean is that there is only one option that says "start scan" unlike Ad-aware, Spyware Doctor etc. that give quick scan, detail scan and various other scanning options. The scan itself is rather ineffective as the software doesn't flush out a large number of spywares who've made their home on your desktop.
The one thing I liked in XoftSpy was the backup and ignore lists. The ignore list in particular solves the irritating problem of having to uncheck the harmless programs for removal on other anti-spyware programs. If anything it is these two features that get XoftSpy the few points that it deserves.
Besides the ignore and backup list features, XoftSpy does not even match up to the free anti-spyware softwares available online. One can certainly make better use of the $28 that is required to purchase this less than ordinary software.
