Wik & the Fable of Souls: Tongues out!
You can buy it at RegNow for that price.
Imaginative design, fluent gameplay, nice background music, variations in levels, good price, the character Wik is cute!
Not a very good storyline, animated graphics are too simple, takes some time to learn the moves.
Imaginative and novel gameplay comes with Wik, a small Golum-like creature, in his quest along the fable of souls. This little guy can jump and throw out its tongue like a frog to stick to platforms and swing. You have to use Wik's acrobatics to collect coins, gems and green worms (grubs) from odd spots on the screen.
Enemies like flies would carry away precious grubs, which Wik has to collect and spit out to his pack animal, Slotham. The element of suspense is time, because if Slotham crosses all the way from the bottom left of your screen to the right, your time's up! There are ways to slow him down, though! One way is to collect honey patches and throw it in front of him to keep him busy.
Wik can collect acorns to shoot at flies, or catch flies to shoot at other flies too! Wik can use cool effects like the 'Shotgun Effect' or the 'Momentum Effect', which are pretty helpful to get to hard-to-reach points or get rid of the enemies. Wik can get killed by touching poisonous flies with its tongue, so it's not like you have unlimited life. The number of lives you can use are limited.
The initial two stages come with nice helpful hints, actually showing how you can use Wik's abilities to do stuff. Don't get bored by these initial stages, the later stages are more challenging and will keep you on your toes.
There are two modes: the story mode and the challenge mode. In the story mode, you have to follow through a storyline, and in the challenge mode, you are required to do incredible feats with the acrobatic skills that Wik has.
Most of the levels take very little time to complete, before you can even get bored with it. The background graphics and music are quite good. But I didn't like the animated graphics so much, they are not visually appealing. The backgrounds change all the while, that adds variation to it. But Wik and Slotham look very small against the background, even though that doesn't pose any difficulty making him move or swing around.
This might be the next game you want for your kids. Wik & the Fable of Souls comes from Reflexive Entertainment. The XBox 360 version costs $10, and the PC game download costs $4.99, with a free 80-minute trial. It's well worth trying out!
Wik & the Fable of Souls is definitely recommendable for the action and suspense it brings. You'll love it. I recommend the XBox version -- that's where it goes best.
